FUN and ADVENTURE for children and youth with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder

We offer a program that will allow participants to experience the fun of a summer camp within a supportive environment with staff that are knowledgeable about the challenges that persons with autism face.

Our goal is to create educational, recreational and social opportunities for children and youth with a diagnosis of autism. Janus Academy began offering a summer camp for children and youth with ASD in the summer of 2006. This camp grew out of a need for our students to be able to attend a summer camp in a safe and supportive environment while learning and having fun. The summer program blends education, community outings and structured group activities. In order to provide the best possible program for these children, the camp will take into consideration each child’s unique and individualized needs, i.e. communication, behavioral support, sensory, etc… to create a challenging and exciting day camp for all of its participants.

The Janus Academy summer program is based on the philosophy that every child should be given the opportunity to participate and experience summer camp within a safe and challenging environment. We believe that when you create positive interactions and stimulating environments, you can produce many opportunities to motivate children to communicate, take notice of and interact with their peers and build upon skills that will enhance their quality of life.

All camp staff members are chosen through the Janus Academy School program and have had at least 1 year experience working directly with children with autism. They are highly trained in creating a safe and accepting environment, behavior management, enhancing communication skills and program planning and implementation.

The camp is designed for children and youth with a diagnosis of Autism from the ages of 5 to 19.
The camp will accommodate a 1:2 ratio of counselors to campers. If your child requires 1:1 assistance, we will try to accommodations this if possible. Families are welcome to send a community support person along with their son or daughter if they choose.

When does the program run?

There will be 4, two week sessions.

  • 1st session: July 3rd to 14th
  • 2nd session: July 17th to 28th
  • 3rd session: July 31st to August 11th
    (closed August 1st)
  • 4th session: August 14th to 25th.

Each family may only sign up for three of the four sessions. This is due to the high demand of this program and to help ensure all Janus families are provided some access to the summer camp program. All sessions are full days, Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
